About Community Homeworks

We strengthen communities by helping homeowners preserve safe, stable, and sustainable homes through repair services, educational resources, and collaborative partnerships.

Our Vision

Kalamazoo County transformed by people thriving in sustainable homes.

A safe, stable home is the foundation for everything else. When the furnace runs and the roof holds, families can focus on work, school, health, and what comes next. We start with the repairs that matter most, then connect homeowners with the skills, tools, and resources to keep their homes strong for years to come.

Our 2025 Impact

Our Mission

Empowering our neighbors to maintain safe, stable, and sustainable homes for generations.

Since 2009, we’ve supported income-eligible homeowners after the purchase, when the real work of owning a home begins. Our programs help neighbors stay in the homes they love and build the confidence to care for them.

Our Values

What guides us

The values shape how we show up for our neighbors, our partners, and each other.

Love

Our motivation, our aim, and our legacy in everything we do.

Equity

We welcome everyone and work to eliminate barriers to full participation.

Empowerment

We strive to activate the unique potential in each of us.

Collaboration

We achieve the greatest impact when we combine our strengths.

Excellence

We hold ourselves to the highest standards in all that we do.

Integrity

We act ethically and do the right thing, even when it’s not convenient.

Practice of inclusiveness

We believe housing is social justice.

A safe, stable home should be within reach for everyone. That belief shapes every repair we make, every workshop we teach, and every tool we lend. Our programs are open to all, and we work every day to remove the barriers that keep neighbors from full participation in our community.

No person is excluded from agency services, employment or volunteer participation because of ethnicity, race, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, economic circumstance, physical and/or mental abilities/characteristics, philosophy/religion, or any other discriminatory reasons.

Furthermore, it is contrary to the policy of Community Homeworks (CHW) for any persons to be discriminated against in employment, housing or participation in publicly funded programs because of race, color, national origin, ethnic or religious background, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital or familial status, height, weight, disability, veteran status or any other class protected by law, in accordance with all federal and state laws.

It takes a community.

Our work is powered by dedicated staff, board members, volunteers, and partners across Kalamazoo County.
